IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (10-14-19)
"Promoting education based athletics in Indiana"
She could have lived the rest of her life knowing that she was a top 5 golfer in the IHSAA state finals, but that would have been a lie, and Kiah Parrott of Kokomo High School couldn't live with that. Instead, she did the right thing and disqualified herself from individual honors because she signed an incorrect scorecard.
Never mind it was a lifetime dream to stand on the awards platform. She saw the bigger picture. Honesty and doing the right thing showed her moral character, and also verified that she had her priorities in order.
Her parents (according to the Indy Star) said her dream was to be on the podium, but their dream for her was to make sure she would have integrity and character as she matured into adulthood.
As her Dad Steve said, "Five years from now, she will be able to sit down in a job interview and explain to someone what she did as a 17-year old."
