IHSAA Tip of the Week (5-9-22)
"Promoting Education-Based Athletics in Indiana"
While watching the 148th running of the Kentucky Derby horse race this past weekend, it brought back memories of many upsets I have witnessed or read about in the history of sports.
Big upsets don't happen every day, but they do happen. At this year's Derby, an 80-1 shot (longest race odds of the 20 horses that competed), Rich Strike ridden by Sonny Leon, won the race, despite no mention of him prior to the start of the race.
If you are a high school athlete participating in sports, team or individual, there is always hope when you are the underdog. Are there upsets every day? No, but there will be upsets from time to time in your sport or event.
Some upsets are bigger than others. There is no greater satisfaction in sports than winning a game/match or event that no one gave you a chance to win. Those are the ones that you will remember forever!
